In most cases no - a garden office is usually permitted development if it is single storey, no more than 2.5m high within 2m of a boundary, sited behind the house, not used as separate living accommodation, and covers no more than 50% of the garden. The work pods, office pods, apple cabins, capsule houses and expandable rooms are all fully insulated in the walls, floor and roof with double glazing, so they are genuinely usable through a British winter with a small heater. The transparent bubble pod is a seasonal garden room, not an insulated office.

A work pod / booth is a compact one-to-four person acoustic room that installs in a day. An apple cabin / capsule is a curved, design-led pod with panoramic glazing. An expandable pod ships at 20ft and folds out on site to a much wider garden room.
